NIGEL CABOURN
NEW MEDICAL SHIRT SALT&PEPPER
The design is based on that of a shirt worn by a doctor who was part of the British expedition that included Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, the first people to reach the summit of Mount Everest.
While regular shirts only have two layers of fabric at the back yoke, this product has a unique structure in which two layers of fabric are layered all around the armholes, over the shoulders and back. This provides strong reinforcement to the upper body, especially the arms, which are the areas that experience the most movement.
In addition, the arm area from the cuffs to the elbows is double-layered, and is designed to withstand heavy use. The body is double-reinforced, which means it is not very breathable. To cover this, there are four ankle holes on the back and four on the sides, which provide ventilation.
Although it looks a relatively simple design, it means that there is a round hole in the fabric. Fabric is usually made up of warp and weft threads, so a hole that cuts off the connection can cause the fabric to break. High processing precision is required to process that part with a special sewing machine and increase the strength to be strong enough to withstand long-term wear.
The buttons are made of cat's eye, a material made from hard coconut. As the name suggests, there is a sharp cut in the center like a cat's eye. The thread is designed to sink into the groove of this cut, which is a detail that prevents the button from falling off due to thread breakage.
